The scientific aim of the LSC InfectoOptics is fighting infectious diseases with the help of novel optical and photonic technologies. The scientists use different model systems and technological approaches for their investigations. The research programme of the LSC InfectoOptics is divided into four main projects.

Within the frame of the funding line Excellence Cluster of the German Research Foundation (DFG) the project "Balance of the Microverse" of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena was invited on September 29th, 2017, to take part in the final application round.

The Federal State of Thuringia supports the Excellence cluster application with, e.g. the financing of five Start-Up projects. Basic chemical communication patterns of organisms from our environment, who influence many fields of our daily life, will be investigated on a microbiological level with optical technologies.

The Leibniz ScienceCampus InfectoOptics has been the starting point for the Jena excellence strategy and will be extended with these five Start-Up projects.
